Throughout the built world of late, museums have been leading the way in architecture--a far cry from the days of antiseptic white cubes, when museums were afraid that signature design might compete with the art on display. Some of the most interesting international architects working today, people like Zaha Hadid, Daniel Liebeskind, Renzo Piano, and Tadao Andao, are creating buildings intended to house art--and to function as works of art themselves. One of the most radical and highly anticipated of these structures is Zaha Hadid's Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) for the city of Cincinnati, set to open its doors in 2003. The CAC will be one of the first museums anywhere in the world designed by a woman, as well as Hadid's first museum and first building in the United States. A $15 million project with 20,000 square feet of galleries set on a smallish, 11,000-square-foot lot in the downtown area, it shows that the institution that stood by the Mapplethorpe show has extended its risk-taking attitude and its integrity to the building that will accommodate its future shows. The seven stories of galleries--each constructed in a variety of heights and floor materials--are housed in horizontal tubes and cantilevered toward the street. An "urban carpet" begins at street level and zigzags up the building's supporting wall, providing visual and physical access to each of the galleries in a continuous flow--but without the awkwardness of the tilted ramp that spirals through Frank Lloyd Wright's Guggenheim Museum in New York. The exterior of the building weaves together the concrete shell and metal cladding of the galleries, the glass windows of the offices, and various electronic displays like a high-tech quilt--and a perfect expression of the various activities so well-contained within. Space for Art will include broad documentation of all stages of the architectural process, expressed in paintings, drawings, and models; short texts; and photographs of the finished building by Hélène Binet. . . .a gutsy solution...an edifice of dizzying diagonals. --NewsweekMs. Hadid is one of the true talents of her generation. --The New York Times. . .one of the most anticipated museum buildings in the United States. --Art in AmericaIn Cincinnati, Hadid manages to create a vibrant public forum for art. --Los Angeles TimesA landmark rupture in architectural history. . .--ELLEA great and inspired choice. --Rem Koolhaus. . .an iconic temple of contemporary culture... --wallpaper* Photographs by Paul Warchol and Hélène Binet. WOW. Even though this concert is from the 80s and doesnt have the technology from todays concerts, This is got to be one of the best concert shows ever. Madonnas talent and the worlds number one show woman on stage is what is most impressive of this show. The opening of the show is amazing and exhilarating as so is the rest of the show.

If you want to see pure talent and charisma on stage this is the concert you should get. AMAZING! Madonna.

Beginnings That Showcase A Star Arising!
Rating Point :4 Helpful Point :0
The excitement on Madonnas opening performance is just a glimpse into just how fabulous this concert maintains itself through until the very end. Theres extraordinary singing, excellent choreographed dancing, live screaming fans, interactions with the crowds, glimmering lights, remarkable stage productions, fabulous dancers, unbelievable stamina, pretty costumes, but most of all a look into the very beginnings of someone who has grown to be one of the most legendary Super Stars of all times, MADONNA!

At a time when her life had a busy schedule from a full Summer tour, soundtrack album, and movie she shows how determination, hard work, and dreams can come true. It was her last show on tour live in Italy so she occasionally shed some tears. One cant help but notice how she poured her heart and soul out especially in certain dance numbers. The pacing, dancing, and action was non-stop and enjoyable! Throughout the performance you see a cute little 13-year-old boy named Chris Finch who shows outstanding dance talent as well as 3 backup singers, including Niki Harris, Donna De Lory, Debra Parson, and two additional male dancers, including Shabba Doo, and Angel Ferreira. Madonna greets her fans in Italian and interacts with them throughout the show even asking them at the very end for a comb to fix her hair.

The 14 songs were variations of pop, 80s dance beats, and some rocknroll. Her new image or persona was apparent to her viewers as she now had short bleached blond hair, no jewelry, and a slimmer silhouette. The costumes Madonna wore during the tour were designed for quick changes where she only switched tops, jackets, hats, pants, or skirts. I noticed she kept a bodysuit throughout the whole show. She occasionally interacted with band members and displayed great nonverbal communication with them throughout.

Every song was mesmerizing, fabulous and spectacular. I would recommend this video for anyone--including children--who want to know how Madonna began and just how far she has gone. Its amazing how her transformations have ultimately led her to now reveal herself as a true Icon for fans, viewers, media, friends, family and Hollywood. As she continues to grow it seems apparent she is uncovering who she really is. Although, the mystery will always be there it is evident Madonnas beginnings were a stepping-stone to her culminating success today!

Birds have eternally fascinated human beings: so long as art has been made, the imagery of birds has been popular. This remarkable catalogue investigates the prevalence of bird and bird culture subjects in contemporary art since the early 1990s, while also revealing how far artists have evolved in their use of bird imagery since the days of John James Audubon, the first major bird artist. For some artists, birds are the touchstone of physical Nature while others regard them more mystically as symbols of transience and mortality. Certain artists identify so personally with birds that the representation of them becomes a vehicle for exploring issues of autobiography; still others take nothing but delight from birds and use them as a point of departure for toying with the viewer's perceptions. "Birdspace" features works by over fifty artists, including Kiki Smith, Jacqueline Bishop, Ann Craven, Wim Delvoye, Walton Ford, Roni Horn, Hunt Slonem, and many more.

    Madonna - Truth Or Dare

    Madonna - Truth or Dare

    Amazon.com

Norman Mailer may have come up with the title Advertisements for Myself, but in this case, Madonna is the one who really wrote the book. Truth or Dare, an engaging behind-the-scenes look at the pop stars Blonde Ambition tour, is a feature-film advertisement for herself that Roger Ebert cleverly dubbed "an authorized invasion of privacy." How much of it is calculated and how much of it is genuine, what Madonna chooses to reveal about herself and what she actually reveals in the process, are up to the viewer to decide. Patterned in part after the classic D.A. Pennebaker documentary of Bob Dylan Dont Look Back, the black-and-white sections of Truth or Dare offer glimpses into her offstage life, while excerpts from the show are seen in color. Madonnas relationship with her father and brother, the maternal control she wields over her dancers, her giggly friendship with Sandra Bernhard, her crush on Antonio Banderas (later to become her costar in the movie version of Evita), the waning days of her relationship with Warren Beatty (who accuses her of wanting to exist only for the camera)--all of it becomes self-conscious fodder for a fascinating examination of modern pop stardom. --Jim Emerson

Im not lucky enough to own this product, but I just did a search on it to compare its contents with those of the Im Going to Tell You a Secret, which I do own, and realized that the DVD is currently only being sold by external users and sellers, and not by Amazon itself.

So Id like to know, cuz this has got me thinking that maybe well see a re-release soon? Im really hoping for a new DVD, with remastered sound and video. It would be so great it they would release it this year, to go along with the more recent documentary.

I saw this movie (for free) in the theater when it came out and if I had to pay good money to watch it I would have demanded my money back. It has to be one of the worst films I have ever seen! I was so bored I almost fell asleep watching it. This movie is a waste of good hard earned money and I would not recomend buying it or wasting your time watching it.

Madonna - Truth or Dare is a documentary from 1991. Most people either love or loathe The Material Girl. I love her to pieces because she is never afraid to show the good and bad side of her personality. This documentary follows Madge during her Blonde Ambition Tour, the concert scenes are filmed in color and the black and white scenes are my intimate with Madonna and her road family discussing fame and relationships. I love when she makes fun of Kevin Coster and Warren Beatty leaves nothing off the table, he tells his then-girlfriend she doesnt want to live off camera, so true! Great movie, great memories!
    A new DVD release PLEASE

I bought this years ago on VHS....(enough said?). It deserves a DVD release and some extras. I saw Madonna in Philly in 1989 and I loved it. I still remember the opening act...Technotronic(they sucked). The songs are still good. I didnt even know who Antonio Banderas was then.
    A Document for Madonnas Times
Rating Point :4 Helpful Point :3
16 years after this documentary was released, and Madonna is still with us. Has anything changed? Shes had kids, maintained musical mastery of her work and kept on chugging.

Truth or Dare is a very well made fly-on-the-walldocument that has not dated in my opinion. Then, as now, Madonna was ahead of the curve in doing this. Her chameleon like makeovers make her a more riveting subject. And as an icon for her time, she makes for great tv. The slice of life approach integrates well and viewing it 16 years later - its as fresh as it ever was. Better than the Osbournes.

One thing is I always wondered what happened to the director of the film: Alek Keshishian. They should consider doing a follow up.

PS - Blond Ambition was my favourite Madonna tour on video, and I hope they release it again on DVD. This release features a few performances.

Michael Lin wouldn't mind if someone stepped on his art: he creates all-encompassing visual floral cornucopias--often on the floor. Long interested in Asian textiles and influenced by Chinese, Japanese, and American culture, many of the fabrics appropriated by the artist are designs culled from Taiwanese wedding fabrics. Included here is "The Architect & The Housewife"--Frances Stark's rare essay on public and private space; extensive installation documentation; an illustrated exhibition history; and a complete artist biography. Michael Lin's works are carefully placed: his warm-hued paintings overlay and define spaces, saturate them, but become so one with each, that they are accepted in the same way it is hard to remember how something was before it changed. --Browyn Mahoney, Journal of Contemporary Chinese Art, 2003 Edited by Ivy Cooper. Known for her cartoon-like characters engaged in ambiguous activities, Laylah Ali's paintings and drawings imply narratives that address a wide variety of political, cultural, and social concerns. Her carefully-created images are deceptive with their buoyant color, yet at the same time delve into some of the more disturbing impulses revealed in the workings of individuals and groups. Often creating characters that represent the many facets of social and racial identity, this special artist book, Types, includes new drawings that are representative of the different "types" of characters Ali creates. Keeping with the intimate scale of her works, this 36-page book includes 14 new black and white color drawings. Each image is juxtaposed next to a solid block of color in order to heighten the intricate details of these new depictions. Paperback, 4.25 x 5.5 in./36 pgs / 7 color and 7 b&w.
