Customer ReviewsHolds 3 bulbs - Super Bright
Rating Point :5 Helpful Point :5
This lamp is very unique in that it can hold up to 3 light bulbs. The main upper lamp has two bulb sockets, plus a 3rd bulb socket for the reading lamp arm. If you use a power saving fluorescent bulb, you can use two 40 watt fluorescent bulb for the main light, which gives the equivalent of 300 watts (150w x 2) of standard incandescent or halogen light output for only a quarter of the energy costs (40w x 2). There is no other torchiere style lamp that will allow this level of brightness and long term cost savings.
Great value!

Very easy assembly, I bought one then later on bought a second one. I bought these to get away from my old energy wasting halogen torchiere. I put various wattage compact fluorescent bulbs in them. Works great! Looks much more expensive than it costs. Even the plastic shades look good and not cheap.
Looks Cheaper than the picture CFL advice

In the picture here it looks a lot more elegant. The shades look like glass or something better than the cheap plastic it really is. Its not that ugly and still is the closest thing to what I wanted my apt is black & white modern theme, and I had wanted a torchiere with an adjustable side reading lamp, all of which this offers. My complaint about the quality is that I dont think it should cost $50. It looks like a $20 lamp from target (mind you I couldnt find what I wanted there).
About CFLs - as a previous reviewer said, they do stick out hideously. The main shade you can bend the socket degree a bit and make them fit, but nothing you can do with the reading lamp. I use them anyways. If this really bothers you, you can go for cold cathode CFLs, which look like a standard bulb, but they arent as bright and you need shop around specialty lighting places as they are not readily available yet, try specialty lighting stores. Another thing about CFLs, if the color bugs you dont blame the bulb. This is my opinion using the 2 main kinds in this particular lamp in my home. Full spectrum (has number about 5000K)is supposed to simulate sunlight. Sounds good but indoors, it looks really crisp, cold and sterile. The soft white (look for about 2700K), which has a yellowy tinge, looks better. I believe it will look better in most cases too.
Disappointed that CFL bulbs dont fit

My trusty $20 torchiere from Target that I have used for years recently broke, and I wanted to replace it with a similar floor lamp. I was specifically looking for one with a flexible gooseneck reading lamp like my old one, but there were very few of those available at an affordable price. I saw this Adesso model here on Amazon, read the reviews, and thought it was perfect.
It was really simple to assemble all you have to do is twist the poles and the shades into place with no additional tools. The shades are made of white translucent plastic, which is fine by me, but at this price range I would have expected something nicer, like glass. When I finished setting up the lamp, I was very disappointed by the gooseneck lamp. Its not as long as I thought it would be, and although its flexible, it doesnt hold its position very well. It kind of droops down from whatever position you configure it in.
I was most disappointed by the type of bulbs the lamp accepts though. Theres big bold words on the box that reads, "Do not use halogen bulbs, only standard". No where on the product page here on Amazon mentioned this. Who in their right mind would want to use standard, energy wasting bulbs when CFLs are so widely available now? I tried installing CFL bulbs anyways, and was relieved it accepted them.
Ok, so I screwed in my CFLs, which were all mini 15W (60W equiv.), but there wasnt enough room for them in the main lamp. Not only that, the CFLs stuck out hideously over the shade because its not high enough to cover them. I then tried standard bulbs, and found they were dangerously close to each other, creating a potential fire hazard. After much frustration and trying to figure what to do next, I discovered the bulb sockets could be re-adjusted so that the CFLs would fit and the shade would be able to cover them. I dont think they were meant to be adjustable, but Im glad they could be. I asked my big strong uncle to help me do so, re-installed the CFLs, and the lamp was near perfect.
So if youre planning to purchase this lamp, be aware that it wasnt made for CFLs, and youll have to do some re-adjusting to the lamp if you plan to use them. With all its problems, I really do like the look of this lamp, and I also like how there is only one on/off switch located right in the middle on the pole, used for both lamps. Its placement is convenient because I dont have to stand up when Im in bed to turn the lamp on or off.
Reading light will not work after less than a month.

I really liked the price. I bought this for the reading light option and loved it, till the reading light stopped working. I tried a new bulb, no luck. So I took it apart to see if there was a loose connection inside, but no luck there either. Mine could just be a one of those that it just happened to. I did not take the chance again, bought a different kind somewhere else.
Really wanted this to work and t may work for you. I threw away all the paperwork, so I cant send it back.
